The plausible future in a continued growth society for Mokauea island is that people will lose interest, or fishermen give out their leases to people who don’t care, and the current government law could ban people from visiting the island anyway. The law that surrounds the Mokauea island residents is that the fishing village will be closed down from both residents and visitors. This agreement has roots back to the government interaction where they illegally broke into peoples homes and burned them down to conduct a modernization of the area, but after a study they did, the government agreed to give fishermen and their families leases of up to 65 years to live on the island and teach Hawaiians and non-natives how to sustain themselves and the environment.
