WHY WE CHOSE OUR TOPIC
We chose our topic because we wanted to study the reef ecosystem. Then we focused more on the limu species that where on and within the reefs. We chose limu because we wanted to see how invasive limus were taking over the reefs and how there was hardly and room for native limu and species to grow. One of the reasons we chose Mokauea island is because it's a perfect example on how the reef ecosystem is being damaged. Also " it used to be a very productive fishery and was Kamehameha III’s royal fishing ground.”(Malama Mokauea Fishing Village, Oahu’s last remaining fishing village)
HOW WE PLANNED OUT OUR PROJECT
We chose to do a website because many people use the internet more than anything. So we felt that more people would get to see the work and research we did if we made a website. We went to Mokauea Island to do our research there we took pictures of our observations, we were also able to listen to a story that aunty Joni (a resident) told us about the island and how it all started and about her families experience living on the island. The story that story that she told us help us get more insight and information on the island and how it is still able to be used to teach younger generations about the land and how to take care of it.
